Gluten Free / Casein Free diets
The "morphine connection"
Many of our children, as well as adults with ASD and related disorders do not have the ability to properly break down the proteins casein and gluten. When proteins are not broken down completely they are called peptides. The peptide for casein is called casamorphine and the peptide for gluten is called glutomorphine. As the names imply, these incomplete proteins can act like an opiate in the body, causing or increasing autistic behavior. So every time your child eats these foods it is like he or she is doing drugs! That is why many of these kids limit their diet to only casein and gluten containing foods and why they will knock down doors to get at the stuff. This also helps explain why tiny amounts can still cause problems.
Going Organic
While many individuals may respond positively to a Gluten Free / Casein Free (GFCF) food program, going organic is an added bonus for better eating, health, and digestion for the entire family! The environment will also thank you!
